Rural Alberta represents only 18 per cent of the total population but contributes 25 per cent of the province’s GDP and is the place for 41 per cent of the provincial investment dollars. However, the great communities, attractions and quality of life that rural municipalities provide are less visible, especially to those who spend most of their time in the city.
The Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) represents Alberta’s 69 rural municipalities, which cover 85 per cent of the land within the province. As you will see in the pages of Xperience Alberta, innovative, forward-thinking communities of all types and sizes cover every corner of the province. Thanks to strong collaboration among urban and rural municipalities, if a particular community lacks a service, you can bet it will be available close by.
So keep in mind that no matter the sector or type of investment, from oil and gas to manufacturing to new technology and small businesses, rural municipalities provide excellent services and infrastructure, competitive property tax rates, access to key transportation links, and the space for your business to grow. On your investment journey, travel off the beaten path, because rural Alberta is where it all starts!
